Police found a “substantial amount” of drugs Thursday inside a shooting victim’s apartment, Police Chief Richard Tisone said Friday morning.

“It’s safe to say this was not a random shooting,” Tisone said.

He said Rodney Clark, 41, of 4063 Madison Road, suffered a grazing wound to his abdomen before being rushed to St. Elizabeth Health Center in Youngstown.

His brother and neighbor, Carl Clark at 4099 Madison Road, said Rodney Clark was released from the hospital Friday.

Police met with Rodney Clark Friday and questioned him, but no arrests were made.

Carl Clark said he was napping at the time of the shooting and woke up to the sound of his doorbell ringing. When he answered, he saw his brother standing outside bleeding from the side. Carl Clark said he saw no one fleeing the scene.

“He was conscious and talking,” Carl Clark said.

He called 911.

Upon arriving at the Monticello Apartments, police found Rodney Clark lying in his brother’s drive way.

Tisone said that because the small slot of glass in Rodney Clark’s front door was smashed, police entered his apartment looking to see if the shooter was inside.

There was no one inside, but police found marijuana, cocaine and a firearm, the chief said. Tisone said it was not the firearm used in the shooting.

He could not say how many units of drugs were found in the apartment, but the drugs were sent off to be processed.

Police are still investigating.

Rodney Clark is on disability retirement from the Trumbull County Corrections Institution, said the institution’s spokeswoman Robyn Ware. He was a corrections officer from Oct. 20, 1997, until Feb. 5, 2005, Ware said.
