Boardman middle schools offer combined holiday concert

The two Boardman middle schools will combine to present a fifth and sixth-grade band holiday concert Dec. 6 at 7 p.m. in the Boardman High School Performing Arts Center.

This concert will feature the fifth and sixth-grade bands from Center and Glenwood and many holiday favorites, including “Jingle Bells,” “Up on the Housetop,” and a “Chanukah Jubilee.”

This concert is the second to combine the fifth and sixth grade Glenwood and Center Middle School bands.

Admission at the door is $3 for adults $2 for students and senior citizens and children under 10 are admitted free.

The Boardman middle schools will present a seventh and eighth-grade band holiday concert featuring the combined Center and Glenwood jazz ensemble Dec. 16 at 7 p.m. in the Boardman High School Performing Arts Center.

This concert will showcase the combined efforts of Boardman Center and Glenwood Middle School band programs. The concert will open with the seventh and eighth-grade jazz ensembles. Many students are featured on improvisation solos in various musical styles from both Center and Glenwood Middle School.

Next, the seventh-grade band performs the popular arrangements of Lady Gaga’s “Poker Face,” “Dynamite” by Taio Cruz and “Hey, Soul Sister” as recorded by Train. The seventh-grade band also performs a holiday favorite “The Night Before Christmas” for narration and band with poetry by Clement Clarke Moore.

The concert will conclude with the eighth-grade band. The band will open with “Blue Ridge Saga” to showcase the band’s hard work and dedication since the start of the school year. Popular selections include “Firework” by Katy Perry, “25 or 6 to 4” as recorded by Chicago, and “Clocks” by Coldplay.
