Fire chief: Sewer work done in area of Ohio blast

Thursday, November 17, 2011

FAIRBORN, Ohio (AP) — An Ohio fire chief says work was being done on a sewer line when a house exploded in western Ohio, leaving a man dead in the debris and injuring at least five other people.

The Dayton Daily News reports no permits had been given for digging in the area in Fairborn where Saturday afternoon’s blast occurred. The newspaper also reports that the man who died was the owner of an excavating company.

Fire officials in the community west of Dayton had said excavation was being done at the duplex home when a gas line apparently was struck and ruptured.

The coroner has not ruled on what caused the death of 71-year-old James R. Davis, of Springfield.
