COLUMBUS (AP) — The Ohio Supreme Court is having a hearing today to decide whether an attorney should be disciplined for his role in the Ohio State football scandal.
Sanctions against lawyer Christopher Cicero could range from a public reprimand to permanently losing his law license.
The court’s Disciplinary Counsel has alleged that Cicero violated professional conduct rules by revealing information from interviews with a tattoo parlor owner who was a potential client.
A Disciplinary Counsel filing says Cicero tipped coach Jim Tressel in a 2010 email that players were apparently selling football memorabilia, including gold pendants, autographed photos and championship rings, a violation of NCAA rules.
The filing says Cicero’s information came from meetings with the parlor owner, who bought the memorabilia or traded it for tattoos.
