Colo. woman charged with killing 2 kids in court

CASTLE ROCK, Colo. (AP) — A Colorado mother who told a police dispatcher her two children were in heaven will appear in a Castle Rock courtroom tpday on charges she killed them.

Authorities say 41-year-old Kelli Murphy was arrested Monday on two counts of first-degree murder after police found the 6-year-old girl and 9-year-old boy dead in their Castle Rock home.

Police say Murphy had called 911 and said she was going to commit suicide. When a dispatcher asked whether any were children home, Murphy said they were in heaven.

She and her husband were splitting up. But KUSA-TV reported that Murphy tried to withdraw her request for a divorce on April 26, saying she made it “wrongly, out of anger.”

Authorities say officers answered five or six calls to the home in recent months.
