Teams use running game to beat wet weather

Saturday, May 21, 2011

Coaches of the teams competing in the Youngstown Youth Flag Football Association drew up primarily running plays during Week 4 action last Sunday at Boardman High School. A wet and slippery playing surface dictated a more conservative approach, but all 52 teams were able to complete games.

In the 5-6 year old division, the two best teams — Miami Dolphins and Green Bay Packers — each won games to set up a match-up to determine the No. 1 seed for the playoffs.

The 7-8 division also has two undefeated teams — Buffalo and Philadelphia — but the hottest team right now is the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, which has won four straight games by wide margins.

With 24 teams in the 9-11 division, no one has really set themselves apart so far, as more than half the teams have a .500 record or better.

In the 12-14 division, the New England Patriots continue to show that the road to the title will go through them this season.

The weekend weather for Week 5 tomorrow continues to look unstable, but the players will be ready rain or shine.
