Boardman Park welcomed daughters, moms and grandmas to a fancy lunch and stylish fashion show for its “Mommy and Me for Tea” event May 1.

Activity director Karen McCallum said she never tires of planning family events for community families.

“I love seeing families come together and enjoy themselves. Today in particular is just a chance for girls to spend a fun day with their mom or any special person, and simply to feel like a princess,” McCallum said of the event.

The celebration started with crafts and coloring that the girls finished together. A professional photo was taken for each mom and daughter as a memento and then the group ate finger foods and fruit and enjoyed tea.

Guest Darlene Troeea enjoyed that the event offered spending quality time with her daughter, Lia.

“I have three daughters who are older, so it’s nice to have a day for just us two,” Troeea explained.

Sheila King attended the event with her daughter, Victoria, last year, who asked her mom to bring her back for another year.

“It’s a really wonderful community event to come spend time with my daughter,” Victoria King shared. “Plus, they make everything so fancy for us. It’s been a blast both years.”

The consensus among guests, however, was that the best part of the day was the fashion show. Guests Noelle Spin and Kaylee Catcott admitted it was what they were most looking forward to.

Every girl at the event was given a walk down the runway. Moms provided detailed descriptions of each daughter’s dress, which were read during the fashion show.

“As soon as the girls arrived, they were practicing and strutting down the runway. I’m glad it’s such a hit,” McCallum shared.
