Big turnout for today's annual South Avenue Shuffle

YOUNGSTOWN

The warm and dry weather enticed more people than expected to the 10th annual South Avenue Shuffle today, event organizers said.

This year, proceeds from the South Avenue Shuffle benefited the Multiple Sclerosis Society.

“It’s always for a cause and the cause changes each year,” said Lori Greenwalt, manager of East Side Civics.

Last year, the shuffle raised about $4,500 for the Mahoning County DD Special Olympics, and Greenwalt expects to raise about that much this year.

Greenwalt said 400 T-shirts were printed for the event, but that was not enough for the large crowd.

Attendees were given a T-shirt and other incentives at all of the participating taverns, which organize the event.
