City moves to shutter Pa. bar after fatal shooting

SCRANTON, Pa. (AP) — Officials have condemned a Scranton bar where a Harrisburg man was fatally shot earlier this week.

City workers say Finn McCool’s has been shut down because of the shooting and unrelated code violations. It will remain closed until the violations are cleared up.

Lackawanna County Assistant District Attorney Gene Talerico tells The Times-Tribune of Scranton that authorities are trying to permanently close the bar, calling it a nuisance. Prosecutors have asked the bar’s owner, Michael Verrastro, to close the bar voluntarily but he has refused.

The body of 28-year-old Malik Carter was found in the bar’s restroom Monday night. He was shot in the head.

Carter’s death remains under investigation.
