Wind, rain bring tornado warnings to central Fla.

KATHLEEN, Fla. (AP) — Thunderstorms battered the Interstate 4 corridor from Tampa to Orlando on Thursday, delaying air traffic and causing car accidents.

Large sections of central Florida were placed under tornado warning and watches for a second day in a row. There was an unconfirmed report of a tornado in the Kathleen section of Polk County, but the county’s emergency management director, Pete McNally, said there were no initial reports of damage or injuries.

The storms delayed air traffic at Orlando International Airport and Tampa International Airport and caused numerous traffic accidents.

It was the second day of gusty storms in central Florida. On Wednesday, strong winds blew a Carnival cruise ship from its dock at Cape Canaveral, tossed around a small plane at Orlando Executive Airport and flipped a tractor-trailer on its side on Interstate 95 in Brevard County. The truck driver suffered minor injuries and was treated at a Titusville hospital.
