Former Buckeyes to visit Eastwood Mall

The Ohio State Sugar Bowl victory is just a memory. Now, some of the players who made it a reality are coming to the Eastwood Mall.

Cameron Heyward, Chimdi Chekwa and Ross Homan will meet their fans and sign autographs at the Everything Buckeyes store on Saturday, April 2, for two hours starting at 2 p.m. Fans may purchase a Super-Ticket for autographs from all three players for $30. Individual autograph tickets will also be available.

Officials needed for upstart kickball league

ASA Certified referees are needed for an adult co-ed kickball league.

Salem’s Bash chooses Hiram for football

Chad Bash, a three year letterman and two year starter for the Salem High, has announced his intentions to continue his athletic and academic career at Hiram University.

Bash was All-Columbiana County and All-Quad County selection in 2010 as an offensive lineman for the Quakers.

5K race to raise funds for Youngstown schools

CANFIELD

Fitness Together, a personal training studio in the township, is sponsoring a 5K race at 9 a.m. April 9 at Canfield Fairgrounds.

The 3.1-mile course is open to people of all ages and fitness levels. Walkers and runners are welcome and they are asked to meet at the government building at the fairgrounds.

The entry fee prior to April 8 is $15. Registration on April 9th will cost $20 and begins at 7:30 a.m. A portion of the proceeds will help to create and/or fund programs in Youngstown City Schools through Eastern Ohio P-16 Partnership for Education.

Press conference for boxing event scheduled

Lights Out boxing promotions will hold a press conference today at 3:45 p.m. at Crickets Bar and Grill, 1733 Midlothian Boulevard

Plans for an all-star pro boxing show featuring undefeated Jake Giuriceo and Billy Lyell that will be held on May 14, 2011 in Campbell, will be discussed.

Packers Jolly denied bond on drug charges

HOUSTON

A judge has denied bond for troubled Green Bay Packers defensive lineman Johnny Jolly after his latest arrest on a drug charge in Houston.

Jolly did not appear in court during a brief hearing on Wednesday. His next hearing is set for April 20. Jolly was charged with possession of a controlled substance after being arrested early Friday morning.

Police say officers found a bottle containing 600 grams of codeine and another containing an unidentified substance under the front seats of Jolly’s car. Jolly was suspended by the NFL without pay for all of last season for violating the league’s substance abuse policy related to a separate 2008 drug arrest in which officers said he also had codeine.

Bucs CB Talib turns himself in to police

GARLAND, Texas

Police in a Dallas suburb say Tampa Bay Buccaneers cornerback Aqib Talib has turned himself in on a warrant accusing him of firing a gun at his sister’s boyfriend.

Garland police said Talib was released after posting a $25,000 bond Wednesday. Police say they believe Talib and his mother, Okolo Talib, shot at the man March 21. The man was not injured.

Authorities had issued arrest warrants for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon for Talib and his mother.
