Ohio could reverese limit on prescription transfers

COLUMBUS (AP) — Ohio regulators are moving to reverse a rule that limits a consumer from transferring a prescription between pharmacies more than once a year.

The restriction approved by the Ohio State Board of Pharmacy took effect this year, but the board has filed paperwork that would reverse it.

The Columbus Dispatch reports the limit upset many consumers and even some pharmacists, who complained about unnecessary paperwork. Critics argued the rule wasn’t fair to people who live outside Ohio for part of the year.

The president of the Ohio Pharmacists Association says some lawmakers and other critics also alleged the rule limited competition among retailers.

State officials will have a hearing next month about reversing the rule. The head of the pharmacy board says the switch could happen by June.
