Ex-Cleveland Dem chairman charged with racketeering in Ohio

CLEVELAND (AP) — The former Democratic Party chairman in Cleveland has been hit with an updated indictment charging him with racketeering in a sweeping federal corruption probe that has led to more than 30 arrests.

Cuyahoga County Commissioner Jimmy Dimora, the top target of the investigation, was indicted today on charges of racketeering, mail fraud and bribery, among other charges. The indictment says he failed to report tens of thousands of dollars in income for several years.

Other charges against him include bribery concerning programs receiving federal funds, conspiracy to commit mail fraud, conspiracy to obstruct justice, destruction or falsification of records in federal investigations and misusing public office. Dimora pleaded not guilty when he was first indicted in the probe in September.

Dimora’s lawyer did not respond to a request for comment.
