Changes coming to Youngstown city schools in fall

YOUNGSTOWN — A restructuring plan for the city schools will turn Chaney High School into a Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math and visual and performing arts school while students at East High School will complete interest-based surveys to gauge their career paths.

Superintendent Connie Hathorn is to formally announce the plan at a news conference this afternoon.

Elementary schools will remain for kindergarten through fifth grade, the Wilson and Volney Rogers middle schools will house sixth- and seventh-grade academies, and P. Ross Berry Middle will become an eighth- and ninth-grade academy.

The plan takes effect in the fall.
