Bones of 2 apparently unearthed in S.E. Pa.

WILLOW GROVE, Pa. (AP) — Tests are under way on the remains of two people whose bones may have been unearthed by heavy equipment at a suburban Philadelphia cemetery.

Montgomery County Coroner Walter Hofman says about 50 bones, including two skulls, were discovered by children visiting Fairview Cemetery in Willow Grove.

Hofman says the remains appear to be of a man and a woman buried more than 50 years ago. An American flag with 48 stars was found near the remains, suggesting the bodies were buried before 1959.

The Philadelphia Inquirer reports Fairview was established in 1904 as a black cemetery.

Hofman says at that time caskets were buried without the concrete liners used today that prevent cave-ins and unintentional unearthing.
