Patrick Kennedy gets engaged
PROVIDENCE, R.I.
Patrick Kennedy, son of the late Sen. Edward Kennedy, is engaged to be married.
Former aide Sean Richardson said Monday that the 43-year-old bachelor got engaged Saturday in Rhode Island to sixth-grade schoolteacher Amy Petitgout. No wedding date has been set.
Kennedy told The Associated Press last month that he was living in New Jersey with his girlfriend. In a written statement, he recalled the title of his father’s book, “True Compass.” He said Amy is his own compass.
She has a 3-year-old daughter named Harper from a previous marriage. She says in a statement that Kennedy loves her daughter as his own.
Kennedy decided last year not to run for a ninth term representing Rhode Island in Congress. His father died in 2009 after many years representing Massachusetts in the Senate.
Rick Ross charged with pot possession
SHREVEPORT, La.
Rapper Rick Ross has been arrested in Louisiana on a marijuana-possession charge.
Police spokesman Bill Goodin said Monday that Ross, whose real name is William Roberts II, was issued a misdemeanor summons and released after Friday night’s arrest.
Roberts, known for such albums as “Teflon Don” and “Deeper Than Rap,” was arrested after police responded to a complaint about the smell of marijuana at the Hilton Hotel.
Upon checking, Goodin said police confiscated 1 gram of what investigators believed to be marijuana.
The rapper performed at Youngstown’s Covelli Centre in February.
McGraw to headline special concert
NEW YORK
SiriusXM is celebrating 10 years of broadcasting country music with a Tim McGraw concert — and it is bringing the singer to New York City for a performance.
The satellite-radio network said Monday that McGraw will headline a special concert at the Beacon Theatre on April 27. Luke Bryan and The Band Perry also are slated to perform.
The audience will consist of SiriusXM contest winners, but those who cannot snag an invitation can catch the performance on three SiriusXM channels, including a new one — “Tim McGraw Radio.” It’s scheduled to launch a few days before the concert.
McGraw, a Rayville native, is kicking off his “Emotional Traffic” tour April 8 in Corpus Christi, Texas.
Israel asks Facebook to remove page
JERUSALEM
The Israeli government is demanding that Facebook remove a page calling on Palestinians to take up arms against Israel.
The page, titled “Third Palestinian Intifada,” has more than 340,000 fans.
In a letter to Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg, Israeli Cabinet Minister Yuli Edelstein says the page includes calls to kill Jews and of “liberating” Jerusalem through violence.
The page features a fist in the colors of the Palestinian flag. It calls on Palestinians to take to the streets after Friday prayers May 15 and begin an uprising. “Judgment Day will be brought upon us only once the Muslims have killed all of the Jews,” it reads.
Edelstein says the page incites to violence and violates Facebook content regulations.
Facebook had no immediate response to an AP request to comment.
