Used sports-equipment drive will benefit Appalachian kids

CANFIELD

Two Canfield High School students will have a used sports-equipment drive from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday and 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. next Sunday at St. Michael Church on state Route 46.

The equipment will be donated to underprivileged children in the Appalachian region of Grahn, Ky., where 1 in 4 residents lives below the poverty line.

Seniors Lauren Lewis and Maggie Watt will be collecting gently used or new sporting goods, including shoes, helmets, pads, gloves and balls.

Parishioners of St. Michael have been traveling to Grahn since 1999 to help the elderly, needy and disabled with work around their homes.
