Submit info for Holy Week, Easter

The Vindicator will run a listing of area services that are open to the public in observance of Palm Sunday, April 17; Holy Thursday, April 21; Good Friday, April 22; Holy Saturday, April 23; and Easter, April 24. The deadline to submit information is 5 p.m. April 13. Publication will be April 16.

Information should include the denomination and name of the church, address, city or suburb, the day, time, type of service, your name and a phone number for verification.

Bishop to speak

Bishop George V. Murry of the Diocese of Youngstown, will be the keynote speaker at an anti-abortion celebration, Blessed One, sponsored by Men and Women United for Life and Holy Family Youth Ministry. The gathering is scheduled from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Sunday at Holy Family Church Center, 2729 Center Road.

Participants will be Greg Frank with youth representatives from the Summit County Pro-Life Congress and Natalie Wardle, St. Charles Church youth minister. Morning Star Praise Band and Tia Ciferno of Bella Women’s Center of Warren will provide music.

Refreshments and fellowship will follow.

The Women of Purpose of the Union Baptist Church will sponsor the annual Women of Victory Prayer Breakfast at 9 a.m. April 2 at the Boardman Holiday Inn.

Elder Rhonda Lyons of the Greater Calvary Full Gospel Baptist Church, Erie, Pa., will be guest speaker. Elder Lyons serves as the coordinator of the Success Initiatives Program, an after-school tutorial program, and is supervisor of the Daughters of Ruth, a fellowship for young girls.

Calvary Baptist Church, 1463 Shields Road, has added a Sunday evening contemporary worship service.

The new “come as you are” service begins at 6 p.m. with refreshments and a get-acquainted time. Worship begins at 6:30.

Workshops, festival

The Youngstown Chapter of the American Guild of Organists will sponsor a presentation by Alice Parker, arranger, composer, conductor and teacher, on April 2 at Westminster Presbyterian Church, 119 Stadium Drive.

Two choral workshops will be from 1:30 to 4:30 p.m. with a short break in between.

Registration will begin at 1 p.m.

There is a $10 fee for adults; high school and college students are free with identification.

Topics will be “Finding the Song in the Poem” and “Rehearsal Techniques for the Church Choir.”

A hymn festival will begin at 7 p.m. in the church sanctuary. Members of area choirs will participate.

A free-will offering will be received.

Pilgrimage planned

Polish Youngstown plans a pilgrimage bus trip to the National Shrine to our Lady of Czstochowa in Doylestown, Pa., April 2 and 3.

The event is in cooperation with St. Casimir Church and St. Columba Cathedral, where the Polish community of Youngstown is working to establish a shrine to the Black Madonna.

A Lenten retreat is planned and those on the bus trip may participate. Polish choir members were invited to sing at the Sunday Mass and prayer service.

Men’s fellowship

Catholic Men’s Fellowship of Northeast Ohio will host its 11th annual men’s conference from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. April 2 at the Rhodes Arena of Akron University. The theme is “Answer the Call,” which is a challenge to men to listen and respond to God’s call in their lives.

Speakers will be Deacon Ralph Poyo, founder of New Evangelization Ministries, and Doug Barry, co-host of EWTN’s Life on the Rock and the founder and director of the Catholic apostolate RADIX.

The conference was arranged by a joint committee of men from the Youngstown and Cleveland dioceses. It will be hosted this year by the Akron University Students for Life and Newman Clubs.

Bishop Roger Gries of the Diocese of Cleveland and Bishop George Murry of the Diocese of Youngstown will co-celebrate the closing Mass.

Jones Sr., jurisdictional prelate of Michigan Southeast and pastor of Greater Holy Temple Ministries in Flint, Mich., will speak at 7 p.m. Wednesday; Superintendent Willie Sewell, pastor of Solid Rock COGIC in Mansfied, will speak at 7 p.m. Thursday; Dr. Rance Allen, pastor of New Bethel COGIC in Toledo, will speak at 7 p.m. Friday and a musical at 10 will feature Mark Jackson and Final Call and the OCE Jurisdictional Mass Choir. Praise band concert

The Leap of Faith Praise Band of Good Hope Lutheran Church, 98 Homestead Drive, will present a concert at 6 p.m. Sunday. Students in seventh through 12th grades will provide refreshments.

A free-will offering will be taken as the youth prepare for a summer mission trip.

Morning reflection

A morning reflection for Women, sponsored by the Committee on Women’s Issues in Church and Society of the Catholic Diocese of Youngstown, is planned April 2 at Blessed Sacrament Church, 3020 Reeves Road NE.

The focus will be “Time for a Change.”

There will be music and a presentation by Sister Joyce Schreiber, pastoral minister at St. Joseph Church in Mantua.

The cost is $10 and includes a continental breakfast. Registration will begin at 8:30 a.m. followed by a prayer at 9 with the program after. The event concludes at noon.
