Services set for 2 of 5 people who died in Pa. fire

ALTOONA, Pa. (AP) — Services have been scheduled for two of the five victims of an early-morning blaze that swept through a second-floor apartment in Altoona in one of the worst fires the central Pennsylvania city has seen in decades.

The Altoona Mirror reports that the funeral for 35-year-old Warren Carter will be Monday.

The Salvation Army says a memorial service for 23-year-old Christopher Alvord will be March 30. Carter and Alvord were among four male residents killed in Tuesday’s fire. A fifth victim, Alvord’s friend, 17-year-old Joey Allen Middaugh, was visiting.

The Blair County coroner says the cause of death was smoke inhalation.

Investigators are still trying to determine what caused the blaze.

It was one of Altoona’s worst fires since three people died in a house fire in the 1970s.
