Donations needed

WARREN

The Warren Family Mission, 361 Elm Road NE, is in urgent need of boxed and canned goods for its food-basket giveaway program, which supplies up to 200 bags of groceries each week to those in need; and of meat products like hamburger and chicken for the 400 sit-down meals served each week and meals served to children kids each week in its after-school program.

With the Easter season approaching, the Mission also needs hams and Easter basket supplies, said the Rev. Ron Biehl, director of development.

Accreditation received

ALLIANCE

Alliance Community Hospital has received a three-year term of accreditation in magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) by the American College of Radiology. MRI is a noninvasive medical test that utilizes magnetic fields to produce anatomical images of internal body parts to help physicians diagnose and treat medical conditions.

Digital mammography

HERMITAGE, PA.

UPMC Horizon has implemented digital mammography at the Womancare Center in Hermitage. Breast-imaging services at the Womancare Center also include stereotactic breast biopsy, breast ultrasound and ultrasound-guided breast biopsy.

$10,000 grant

BOARDMAN

Akron Children’s Hospital Mahoning Valley has received a $10,000 grant from The J. Ford Crandall Memorial Foundation to help fund renovation costs associated with the opening of the pediatric surgery center on the Beeghly Campus in Boardman.

In recognition of the donation, the family consultation room located within the surgical-services area will be named for the J. Ford Crandall Memorial Foundation.

One-year grant

YOUNGSTOWN

Help Hotline Crisis Center has received a $28,440 from the Hine Memorial Fund of the Youngstown Foundation. The one-year grant is for the Special Needs Families Project, which creates a central information/referral source for parents and caregivers of children with special needs and provides personal contact.

Medical education

AKRON

Akron Children’s Hospital has been awarded accreditation for four years, October 2010 to October 2014, as a provider of continuing medical education for physicians by the Ohio State Medical Association Focused Task Force on Accreditation.

Akron Children’s offers continuing medical education through weekly grand rounds, visiting professor programs and medical conferences focusing on topics such as pediatric infectious disease, sports medicine and orthopedics and adolescent health.
