Fire closes McDonald’s

YOUNGSTOWN

A grease fire that broke out Tuesday caused the McDonald’s at 570 5th Ave. to close temporarily.

Gary DiTullio, battalion chief at the Youngstown Fire Department, said grease that had built up in the hood of a fryer caught fire when a technician turned it on after changing a burner.

DiTullio said no one was injured, and the fire was quickly contained.

Cicero Davis, director of environmental health at the Youngstown City Health District, said he inspected the restaurant and cleared it for reopening about 2:30 p.m. Tuesday.

Buildings to get wind power

LORDSTOWN

Two 10-kilowatt wind turbines will provide 30 percent of the electricity used at the Village of Lordstown Administration building, 1455 Salt Springs Road.

A ribbon-cutting ceremony in celebration of the turbines is scheduled at 3:45 p.m. today.

Avalon releases financial results

WARREN

Avalon Holdings Corp. has released its year-end and fourth-quarter results.

The company reported a net loss of $0.5 million, or $.14 per share, for 2010, compared with a net loss of $0.8 million, or $.20 per share, for 2009.

For the three-month period that ended Dec. 31, 2010, Avalon recorded net income of $0.1 million or $.02 per share. For the same period in 2009, the company recorded a net loss of $0.1 million, or $.03 per share.

During the fourth quarter of 2010, the company’s net operating revenues were $11.3 million, compared with $10.1 million for the fourth quarter of 2009.

For the year, net operating revenues were $43.5 million, compared with $36.9 million in 2009.

The Warren-based company provides waste-management services to customers in the Northeastern and Midwestern United States. It also owns the Avalon Golf and Country Club with locations in Warren, Vienna and Hermitage, Pa.

Job fair planned
