Police investigate weekend shootings

Youngstown police are investigating two shootings from the weekend and still are looking into several home invasions in which residents were threatened with guns.
According to police reports, a 31-year-old Julian Street man was in the 600 block of Griffith Street on Sunday evening visiting friends when he was approached by a light-skinned black male wearing all black. The unidentified man reportedly pointed a gun at the victim and said “Give me all you got.”
The victim told police he emptied his pockets showing the thief that he did not have anything worth stealing. The thief shot the man in the calf then ran away.
The victim was listed in stable condition with a gunshot wound to the left calf.
Later Sunday evening, police were called to another shooting, this one involving a teenage girl on the East Side. That shooting took place just after 9:30 p.m.
According to reports, the 16-year-old West Boston girl was in the back seat of a friend’s car in a parking lot on Kendis Circle when a silver minivan pulled into the parking lot. She told police someone opened a side door on the minivan and began shooting at the car in which she was seated.
Police reports say a single bullet came through the car hitting the girl in the right leg then the left leg. The girl told police the driver of the car she was in fled the area and headed toward St. Elizabeth Health Center with the minivan chasing them. The minivan turned in a different direction once they were near the hospital.
The victim could not provide a description of the people inside the minivan.
Police are still looking for those responsible for a home invasion on Mistletoe Avenue on Friday. According to reports, an 18-year-old man was grabbed from behind, pushed onto a bed, had a blanket thrown over him and was robbed at gunpoint about 11 p.m.
The thief, who was wearing a black hoodie that concealed most of his face, took $10 from the man’s pocket, the Xbox game system he was playing and his cell phone. At least one other person could be heard in the house at the time, the victim told police. A television also was taken during the robbery.
The Mistletoe Avenue robbery was a short distance from a Judson Avenue location where a group of people were robbed at gunpoint by three masked men brandishing handguns.
The three men allegedly stormed the house, pistol-whipped two men inside the house then made all five victims in the house lay on the floor before marching them to a basement area where they were made to wait while the men ransacked the house. The thieves made off with a video-game system and $400.
