Women’s History Month

Women’s History Month

This year’s theme is “Our History is Our Strength,” a tribute to the millions of women who overcame adversity to make a difference in history.

March was designated Women’s History Month in 1987.

Susan B. Anthony and Elizabeth Cady Stanton formed the National Women Suffrage Association in 1869.

The 19th Amendment gave women the right to vote in 1920.

Eleanor Roosevelt was appointed chairwoman of the President’s Commission on the Status of Women by President John. F. Kennedy in 1961.

A 50-year Progress report from The White House found that younger women now are more likely to have a college degree, and the number of men and women in the labor force is nearly equal.
