Ohioan charged in weekend killing of police officer

SANDUSKY, Ohio (AP) — Authorities say a northern Ohio man has been charged with aggravated murder in the fatal shooting of a Sandusky police officer.

Erie County sheriff’s Capt. Paul Sigsworth says 50-year-old Kevin Randleman of Sandusky was charged Sunday, adding to a long criminal record. Authorities didn’t know if Randleman had an attorney, and the case was not listed in court records online.

Police haven’t said why Officer Andrew Dunn tried to stop Randleman as he rode a bicycle early Saturday or what prompted the two to exchange gunfire. Dunn was killed. Randleman suffered a gunshot wound and was flown to a Toledo medical center.

Sigsworth said Randleman was in stable condition Sunday.

He said prosecutors have told authorities Randleman also was accused of killing a Sandusky man in 1990 but was acquitted.
