The field in the Watson and Tressel Training Site under construction will be named the Candy and Eddie DeBartolo Family Field.

Youngstown State University trustees passed a resolution naming the field at a meeting Friday.

The family of Candy and Edward DeBartolo Jr. contributed $750,000 to assist with construction costs of the facility.

DeBartolo Jr. served as a YSU trustee from 1974 to 1977.

The board also passed a resolution authorizing an honorary doctor of laws degree for retired U.S. District Court Judge Peter C. Economus. The honorary degree is to be awarded to Judge Economus, who also served as Mahoning County Common Pleas Court judge, this spring.

Also at Friday’s meeting, trustees said goodbye to two of their own.

The terms of Larry D. DeJane, trustee since 2002, and Lyndsie A. Hall, student trustee since 2009, are ending. Trustees passed resolutions of appreciation for both.

“Nine years is a long time,” said DeJane, who was appointed by former Gov. Bob Taft. “It certainly has been a pleasure and an honor.”

Hall, who was appointed by former Gov. Ted Strickland, said it was a fast two years.

“I learned so much from all of you and a lot of people that I’ve met,” she said. “I’m going to miss it.”

Trustee Sudershan Garg was nominated as trustees chairman for 2011-12, John R. Jakubek was nominated as vice chairman and Franklin S. Bennett Jr. as secretary to the board. The vote on the nominations is set for June.

Trustees approved a strategic plan for the university for 2011 to 2020, mapping out YSU’s future in four areas, or cornerstones: student success, accountability and sustainability, urban- research transition and regional impact.
