The multicultural worship service, originally scheduled in January, will take place at 10:30 a.m. March 27 at Gibson Heights Second Presbyterian Church, corner of Gibson and Dewey streets.

A potluck fellowship meal will follow.

Participants are asked to bring a hot dish, salad and/or dessert.

Table service and beverage will be provided.

An offering will be received; envelopes will be provided so that it goes to the ministry of the donor’s choice.

Church anniversary

Greater Liberty Baptist Church, 66 10th St., will host a musical program involving various area choirs at 6 p.m. today as part of the celebration for its 65th anniversary.

The Rev. James Bowie, pastor of Greater Friendship Baptist Church, will be guest speaker at 3:30 p.m. Sunday and be accompanied by his choir and congregation.

Anniversary chairs are Cheryl Davis and Robert Gore, trustee.

Host pastor is the Rev. Carl A. Anderson.

Special speaker

Sue Thomas, a Boardman native, will be guest speaker at the 10:30 a.m. worship service Sunday at Westminster Presbyterian Church, 119 Stadium Drive.

Thomas has been profoundly deaf since the age of 18 months.

A graduate of Springfield College in Massachusetts with a degree in political science and international affairs, she was hired by the FBI to work in undercover surveillance reading lips.

In 2001, Thomas was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis, and served as Ambassador for the National M.S. Society from 2002-07.

Needing a special service dog trained to work with an individual with multiple disabilities, Thomas went to Canada to get her recent dog, Katie. She founded a nonprofit group, Kennels of Levi, to train dogs in the U.S. for this work.

Dramatic reading

Dr. Allan Mosher, professor of voice at Dana School of Music at Youngstown State University, will present a dramatic recitation of the first six chapters of the Gospel of Mark at 6 p.m. Sunday at Gospel Baptist Church, 6235 Clingan Road.

Night of Hope

Trumbull County Prayer Movement will host a “Night of Hope” from 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Pleasant Valley Church, 2055 Pleasant Valley Road.

The film, “An Appalachian Dawn” will be shown. This documentary tells the story of how God’s power transformed Manchester, Ky., (formerly dubbed as the “Painkiller Capital of America”) from a depressed and desperate community to what is now called “The City of Hope.”

The evening will close with prayer for the Mahoning Valley.

There is no cost, and childcare will be provided.

‘Acting Black’ program

Beulah Baptist Church, 570 Sherwood Ave., will host a program by Yusaf Johnson of Cleveland on “Acting Black” at 4 p.m. Sunday. He will discuss what is happening in black communities and how to address the problems and devise solutions.

Cleveland Performing Arts Ministries will present “Tet lestai,” a musical portrayal of the trial, execution and resurrection of Jesus, at 8 p.m. Friday and March 26 and 2 p.m. March 27 at Immaculate Heart of Mary Church, 4490 Norquest Boulevard. Admission is free; donations are accepted.

Retreat for women set

VILLA MARIA, Pa.

Ancient rituals lessons

The Rev. Andrew Gromm, pastor of St. Michael Orthodox Church, 127 Steel St., conducts a weekly lesson at 6 p.m. Thursdays on ancient rituals of the church. The same lesson is offered at 4 p.m. Fridays. Lessons will focus on the liturgy’s origins from the first to fourth centuries, but also beyond this era.

Father Gromm also is on WSOM-AM 600 at noon Saturdays and preaches the Gospel and church history from the Eastern Christian perspective.

Spring revival
