In a fun guessing game, sons had to try and tell their dads what person, place, or thing was shown on the card the dads had to wear on their forehead. Luke Weimer (front left) had to politely tell his dad, David Weimer (front right), that he was a pig during the game.

Fathers and sons bonded over dodgeball and pizza during Dobbins Elementary’s Father-Son Night on Feb. 24.

The event, open to dads and their kindergarten to fourth-grade Dobbins students, focused on physical activity and friendly competition.

Stations of dodgeball and cornhole were available, along with a pizza and soda stop for refueling.

To fit with the sports theme, the dads and their boys wore the jersey of their favorite sports team for the activities.

Although she’s been to many Father-Son nights as principal, principal Cheryl Borovitcky thought that the excitement of this year’s participants made the event a memorable one.

“This year’s Father/Son Night was outstanding,” she said that evening.

“The boys thoroughly enjoyed this night out with their dads and the sports theme was right on!”

Bill Hegarty attended the event with his kindergartner, Evan Hegarty.

“‘Organized’ sums up the night — everything moved so smoothly throughout the evening. It was great to bond with the other fathers, and I must say, one hour solely with my son was nice.”

Third-grade Dobbins students were just as excited to have their dads around.

“I liked cornhole and playing with my dad. He gave me lots of great tips,” shared student Tyler Berry.

“I always like spending time with my dad, but it was different and fun to have him here at school,” Chase Wern observed.

Dobbins librarian Lois Dunnavant attended the event and was happy to see the group enjoying themselves.

“Everyone got plenty of exercise and had lots of fun. I can tell by all the flushed cheeks and big smiles,” she said.

The event was sponsored by the school’s PTO.
