Chizmars’ 65th anniversary is celebrated

CANFIELD

Michael P. and Margaret A. Chizmar of Canfield celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary the afternoon of May 29 at a party for invited family and friends at their home.

Hosting the event were the couple’s children and their spouses, Mary-Margaret and Bert Pharis of St. Augustine, Fla.; Michael and Kathy Chizmar of Pickerington, Ohio; Peter Chizmar and Leo and JoAnn Chizmar, all of Boardman; John and Janet Chizmar, Louise and Steve Easter and Debora Chizmar, all of Canfield; Anna Marie Frease of Youngstown; Martin and Debbie Chizmar of Mineral Ridge; and Kevin and Mary Lou Chizmar of Akron.

The Chizmar family also includes 26 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Chizmar worked as the secretary for St. Brendan School in Youngstown and as a clinical assistant for the Neil Kennedy Recovery Clinic. She retired in 1993.

Mr. Chizmar worked as general foreman for Youngstown Steel Door Co. in Youngstown before retiring in 1982. He is a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles, Meander Aerie 3298. He served as a U.S. Army Ranger in the Pacific Theater during World War II.

The couple, former members of Sacred Heart and St. Brendan churches in Youngstown, are members of St. Michael Church.

Mrs. Chizmar, the former Margaret A. Meenachan, and Mr. Chizmar were married in Sacred Heart Church, Youngstown, on May 18, 1946.

They received greetings from President Obama and the first lady, Gov. John Kasich, U.S. Sen. Sherrod Brown and state Rep. Ronald Gerberry. They also received a blessing from Pope Benedict XVI and a City of Youngstown Proclamation from Mayor Jay Williams.
