Although the students at Watson Elementary and Frank Ohl Intermediate can see each other through the windows of their school, the journey of Watson third-graders to the intermediate school is an important one for the students.

To reflect on their history and their future together, the third-graders and their families gathered on May 25 in the Frank Ohl auditorium for a third-grade recognition day.

Always keeping things fun, the event began with a performance by North Canton area magician Mike Bishop, who mixed comedy, props and balloon animals to entertain the crowd before the recognition ceremony.

Bishop gave away many prizes to the third-graders and celebrated them on their graduation to intermediate school.

The event also gave principal Shelia Palombo a chance to thank the third-grade class during her first year as principal.

“I attended this program last year, hoping that I would become your principal and be standing here today. Every student, teacher, and parent involved at Watson are my new family, and I thank you for a wonderful year,” Palombo shared with the crowd.

The third-graders each received a graduation certificate and a photo with their teacher. To always remember their Watson classmates, the students received a class photo showing every classmate’s signature, provided by the PTA.

Palombo shared some advice with her third-graders before they officially became Frank Ohl students.

“Today is the end of an era. You’ll be tackling a bigger school, new teachers and a demanding curriculum. Remember to take what you learned at Watson and use it — always work hard and never give up.”
