Organizers of Ohio outdoor events wary of heat

Thursday, July 21, 2011

DAYTON, Ohio (AP) — Organizers of a big annual air show coming up this weekend say they’re confident they’ll make money, even if extreme heat keeps people away.

The chairman of the panel behind the Vectren Dayton Air Show tells the Dayton Daily News the event should be profitable thanks to corporate sponsorships and strong advance sales of reserved seating.

Some outdoor functions have been canceled in Ohio because of this week’s temperatures in the 90s and humidity that makes it feel hotter than 100 degrees.

A historic preservation group in the central Ohio city of Delaware is postponing a “Harry Potter” costume party today for one week. Organizers of the fundraiser say they want to ensure that guests will be comfortable in their get-ups.
