Usually during school Fun Days, the kids are the guests that get to enjoy all the fun. On June 9, Dobbins added a new aspect to its event by asking teachers to participate in some of the “Minute to Win It” activities during Fun Day.

During the morning, the Dobbins PTO organized “Minute to Win It” games appropriate for the school’s kindergartners to fourth-graders.

The students competed in games like “Moving it Up,” where they had to move a blue cup through a stack of red cups, and “Shaking it Up,” where they shook ping-pong balls out of a tissue box fastened around their waists.

In an art station, students decorated blue bookbags with stencils of bulldogs and paw prints, and had the bag signed by all of their classmates.

Although the day was full of wacky fun, the highlight of the event came in the afternoon, when Dobbins teachers gathered to play their own version of “Minute to Win It.”

“We definitely had to talk the teachers into it. But everyone is enjoying it and it’s great to see the kids cheering on their favorite teachers and pushing them to win,” said PTO organizer Jackie Marantis.

For the teacher’s game, the PTO made the tasks a bit harder and added music from the show and even a Guy Fieri look-alike to the proceedings.

“My husband, Mike, graciously agreed to wear a blonde wig, sunglasses and a crazy shirt so he could look like Guy Fieri,” Marantis said with a laugh.

After many rounds of tough play, third-grade teacher Debbie Patsko was crowned the teacher’s “Minute to Win It” champion.

At the end of a long, but entertaining day, graduating fourth-grader Sophia Thompson shared, “I had a blast today!”
