Boardman Township Park has expanded its eighth annual Father-Daughter Princess Dance to three nights.

The dances will be at the Lariccia Family Community Center in the park from 6 to 9 p.m. Feb. 19 and 5 to 8 p.m. Feb. 20. The Feb. 18 dance is already sold out. The semi- formal dance will include dinner, a DJ and a professional photo.

Tickets are $35 for a father-daughter couple from Boardman and $45 for those living outside the township. For more information and to buy tickets, go to boardmanpark.com.

HOWLAND

The Howland board of education will accept letters of interest until Feb. 11 from school-district residents wishing to fill the unexpired term of Paul Dieter, who has announced he’s resigning from the board effective today.

Dieter has resigned with one year left on his term to devote more time to his career, family and other interests, he told the board. He is owner of PMD Builders of Warren.

Board President Barbara Wright said Dieter “always put the education of Howland’s children first” and was a valuable resource because of his knowledge of facilities and construction.

Mock trials in Warren

WARREN

Students from Hubbard, Warren John F. Kennedy, LaBrae and Struthers high schools will take on the roles of attorney and witness as part of the Ohio Center for Law-Related Education’s 28th annual High School Mock Trial competition Friday.

It will take place in the Trumbull County Family Court, 220 Main Ave. SW, from 9 to 11:30 a.m. and 1:15 to 3:45 p.m.

More than 3,500 students from 350 teams and 150 schools are participating throughout Ohio.

Open house on 224

CANFIELD

The Ohio Department of Transportation District 4 will have an open house from 5 to 7 p.m. Feb. 10 about a project on U.S. Route 224.

The proposed project is for improvements to Route 224 at the state Route 11 interchange in Canfield Township, including the installation of an addition westbound through lane east of South Raccoon Road that will provide an additional right-turn lane to state Route 11 northbound.

As part of the project, right-turn lanes will be installed and the existing left-turn lanes will be extended on all four approaches at the Route 224-South Raccoon Road intersection. The estimated project construction cost is approximately $5,830,000, according to an ODOT news release.

The open house will be at the ODOT Maintenance Facility, 401 W. Main St.

Seminar on pumpkins

CANFIELD

The Ohio Valley Giant Pumpkin Growers will have a free giant- pumpkin-growing seminar from 1 to 4 p.m. Feb. 12 at Mill Creek MetroParks’ McMahon Hall, state Route 46 across from the Canfield Fairgrounds.

Giant-pumpkin seeds will be available. The class, taught by Tim Parks, will cover seed selection, soils, fertility, pests, pollination, pruning and irrigation.

The Ohio Valley Giant Pumpkin Growers is one of the world’s premier giant-pumpkin clubs, with 350 members in North America. Members have seminars and attend a summer patch tour and picnic, and the Great Pumpkin Commonwealth weigh-off Oct. 1 at Parks Garden Center.

In 2010, the club set the world record for 10 heaviest pumpkins at one weigh-off, with an average of 1,490.2 pounds.

St. Dominic’s raffle

St. Dominic Church will have a reverse raffle at Mr. Anthony’s banquet center Feb. 12.
