YOUNGSTOWN

A 53-year-old man is in Mahoning County jail after his arrest shortly after a robbery at the CVS Pharmacy, 2846 Mahoning Ave.

Apprehended on an aggravated robbery charge just after the 3:30 p.m. Saturday incident was George Reardon, of Youngstown, who police said they were able to positively identify from the store’s surveillance video.

A clerk told police an older man with a gray mustache, wearing a dark coat and blue knitted cap reached across the counter, pointed a small pocket knife at her, demanded all the money in the cash register and left the store with money, later estimated after a drawer count to be about $59.

Another witness then told police she saw a man fitting that description run through a parking lot and into a nearby residence.

A resident then admitted police to a Mahoning Avenue apartment, where police said they saw Reardon, a blue knitted stocking cap, and a black jacket containing Reardon’s identification on a chair and recovered $61 under a mattress.
