Landis Floors wins Camelot Queens crown

The Camelot Queens declared Landis Floors as champion when members decided to end the season prematurely due to a shortage of bowlers, who either became ill or had deaths in their families.

Landis won Queens’ first half after 10 weeks and then won the next 10 weeks to finish as champs.

“We’re only bowling 20 weeks instead of 32,” secretary Mary O’Hare said. “We decided to go 20 so everybody can get healthy and go back to 32 next year.”

As women stayed away, the league shrank to just 17 bowlers and five teams.

“Instead of four on a team, some had three,” O’Hare said. “It’s hard to get a bowler to come in at this time of year.”

All that remains, O’Hare said, are roll-offs to determine the runner-up.

One Queens bowler, Jill Nagle with a 113 average, rolled 167-432.

At Holiday, Adam Barta had 300-847 in Belchyk/Action Plumbing Classic and Tom Simon’s 299-822 led Wed. Men on Jan. 19.

Ronald Lewis had 300 in Bob’s Bail Bonding at Wedgewood on Jan. 10, then finished with 665.

Tammy Diver’s 268-777 was tops among all bowlers in Hively’s Doubles on Jan. 18, her 247-706 led Duke & Duchess at Amron on Jan. 23 and Diver’s 279-706 was superior to league-mates in Stachowski/Noticeable Homes Ladies Trio on Jan. 19.

Not to be outdone, Teri Haefke had 300-738 in Thursday Matchplay Ladies at Amron on Jan. 20.

Carl Cramer shot 300-764 and Marshall McCree had 299-758 in Bob’s Auto Service Seniors at Amron.

For a fourth year, a PBA tournament qualifier will be held in Lorain, sponsored by the Ohio Lottery.
