Cleveland State topples Loyola, wins 20th game

Trevon Harmon scored 21 points and Cleveland State won its 20th game of the season.

Norris Cole added 17 points and nine assists for the Vikings (20-3, 9-2 Horizon), who have won at least 20 games in three of the past four seasons. Aaron Pogue had 12 points and 10 rebounds, while Tim Kamczyc had 11 points and Jeremy Montgomery 10.

It was the fifth straight win for Cleveland State, which swept the season series from Loyola. Walt Gibler led the Ramblers (13-9, 4-7) with 25 points and nine rebounds.

Valparaiso 85, Butler 79, OT

VALPARAISO, Ind.

Matt Kenney, Ryan Broekhoff and Cory Johnson each scored 16 points to lead Valparaiso.

Brandon Wood added 15 points for the Crusaders (16-6, 8-2 Horizon), who rallied after trailing by nine early in the second half.

Matt Howard and Zach Hahn both finished with 17 points for the Bulldogs (14-8, 6-4), who have lost three of four.

BIG TEN No. 12 Purdue 73, No. 16 Minnesota 61

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind.

JaJuan Johnson scored 24 points in leading Purdue.

The Big Ten’s leading scorer made 8 of 13 field goals to notch his sixth straight game with at least 20 points. Ryne Smith scored all 15 of his points in the second half and Lewis Jackson had 13 points and five assists for the Boilermakers (18-4, 7-2 Big Ten).

Trevor Mbakwe had 17 points and 12 rebounds for Minnesota (16-5, 5-4).

Penn St. 56, No. 17 Wisconsin 52

STATE COLLEGE, Pa.

Talor Battle scored 20 of his 22 points after halftime and Penn State turned up the defensive pressure in the second half to upset Wisconsin.

Jeff Brooks had 12 points and Andrew Jones grabbed 14 rebounds to the help the Nittany Lions (12-8, 5-4 Big Ten) overcome a 13-point deficit in the first half to beat the Badgers for the first time since 2003.

Jon Leuer had 18 points to lead Wisconsin (15-5, 5-3).

MID-AMERICAN Bowling Green 68, Eastern Michigan 63

BOWLING GREEN

Scott Thomas scored 16 points and Jordon Crawford 14 to lead Bowling Green.

The Falcons (10-11, 5-2) fell behind 12-2 at the start but rallied to lead 34-31 at the half. Eastern Michigan (5-15, 2-5) took its only lead of the second half, 46-45, on Brandon Bowdry’s layup with 12:36 remaining. Bowdry led the Eagles with 24 points and 15 rebounds. A jumper by Thomas 26 seconds later put Bowling Green ahead to stay and began a 17-8 Falcons run for a 62-54 advantage.

Jay Higgins had 15 points for Eastern Michigan.

Western Michigan 73, Miami (Ohio) 68, OT

Demetrius Ward scored 21 points and Western Michigan came back from a 14-point halftime deficit.

Juwan Howard Jr. scored four of his 11 points in overtime for the Broncos (11-9, 4-3), who trailed 42-28 at halftime. A 12-1 run brought Western Michigan within four, 54-50, with 10:25 left in regulation. Two free throws by Ward tied it, 62-62, with 2:35 left and a 3-pointer by Nate Hutcheson gave Western Michigan a 65-62 lead at the 1:53 mark.

Julian Mavunga led the RedHawks (9-12, 4-3) with 22 points. He made 1 of 2 free throws and then a jumper with 19 seconds left for a 65-65 tie at the end of regulation.

Ohio 61, Ball State 60

MUNCIE, Ind.

Nick Kellogg scored five straight points in the final minutes to seal Ohio’s victory.

Kellogg’s 3-pointer with 2:31 left gave the Bobcats (10-11, 3-4 Mid-American) a 57-55 lead.

Buffalo 63, Northern Illinois 52

BUFFALO, N.Y.

Zach Filzen scored 21 points and Byron Mulkey added 19 as Buffalo pulled away in the second half. The Bulls (13-6, 5-2 Mid-American Conference) won their fifth in a row.
