YOUNGSTOWN

Youngstown police raided three homes this week, confiscating weapons, ammunition, drugs and cash.

Police raided an apartment at 276 Fairgreen on the city’s North Side at 11:45 a.m. Wednesday. Officers found a .32-caliber semiautomatic pistol and a Glock-model handgun with nine live rounds and 38 additional rounds of ammunition inside the apartment.

Officers also confiscated eight small suspected marijuana plants, an undetermined amount of loose suspected marijuana and materials used to grow the drug. There also was $152 confiscated from the apartment.

Police questioned a 20-year-old male tenant of the apartment, who reportedly told officers he grows the marijuana for his personal use and keeps the firearms for protection. He was released from custody pending a review of the case by prosecutors.

Later the same day, police raided a house at 433 Worthington Ave., also on the North Side. No one was home at the residence, but police reportedly found a glass crack pipe and ammunition inside the home. The items were confiscated and are at the police station.

A raid at a South Whitney Avenue home on the West Side just before 6 p.m. the same day resulted in more confiscated items and an arrest.

Police charged Megan Porter, 26, with misdemeanor drug abuse marijuana. She pleaded no contest to the charge, was found guilty and will be sentenced March 2. Porter has been placed on house arrest until her sentencing date.

Police reports say officers found four bags of suspected marijuana and a glass crack pipe in the room where Porter was found. A glass marijuana bong and a digital scale also were found in the living room.
