The Diocese of Youngs-town is hosting a Center for Ministry Development workshop from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. March 1 at Little Flower Church, 2040 Diamond St. NE, in Middlebranch/Canton.

The workshop, “Youth Retreats: Forming Faith, Transforming Lives,” is designed for coordinators of youth ministry, high-school campus ministers, directors of religious education, confirmation coordinators, clergy and adult members of ministry teams.

The seminar facilitator will be Jane Angha, a coordinator of Youth Ministry Services and project coordinator of Young Neighbors in Action mission trips for the Center for Ministry Development. She has a master’s degree in theological studies from St. Norbert College in DePere, Wis. She served in Wisconsin as director of faith formation and young ministry at St. Bernard Parish in Appleton and Retreat Director at Mt. Tabor Retreat Center.

The Diocese of Youngs-town is one of only 25 sites across the country for this seminar.

Cost is $49 a person, which includes workshop materials, lunch and shopping at the CMD onsite bookstore.

Participants can earn four certification hours.

Men of Valor

The Men of Valor of the Union Baptist Church will host the annual prayer breakfast at 9 a.m. Feb. 26 at Union Baptist Church, 528 Lincoln Ave.

Bishop Jesse Gavin of Greater Calvary Full Gospel Baptist Church in Erie, Pa., will deliver the message from the Lord.

The ticket donation is $10; no tickets will be sold at the door. Tickets are available at the church office by calling 330-746-1217.

Observance set to honor chaplains

In commemoration of the sacrifice of four Armed Forces chaplains during World War II, Chaplain Ronald Widowfield of Post 236 has announced that the American Legion will observe Religious Emphasis Week from Sunday to Feb. 6.

Four chaplains’ Sunday service will be at 10:45 a.m. Feb. 6 at First Christian Church, 17 N. Center Street.

All veterans and guests are welcome.

Veterans are to meet at 10:30 a.m.

The service recognizes chaplains, a Jewish rabbi, a Roman Catholic priest and two Protestant ministers, who issued life-belts to American servicemen aboard the troop transport ship after it was torpedoed Feb. 3, 1943. When the supply of life preservers was exhausted, the four chaplains removed their own life belts and gave them to four soldiers.
