Although the collection of new Scholastic books at Stadium Drive’s Jan. 19 book fair was very exciting, it wasn’t just the books that had everyone celebrating.

More important to the PTA organizers was that the sale promoted reading and giving throughout the school.

“The quality, affordable books are the draw for the kids, but the parents will find that any money spent here comes back and enriches the school,” said sale chairperson Rhonda Schuler.

The funds collected at the book fair provided opportunities to donate books to classrooms. Wish lists were provided by teachers for classroom donations. When the books are delivered, a nameplate will be placed in the book with the student’s name.

The sale also benefits the school’s revamped library.

“The PTA doesn’t actually make any real money from this — we earn ‘Scholastic dollars,’” explained PTA president Amy Dietz. “The remodeling of the library made it a beautiful new centerpiece of our school, but they’re in dire need of books. Our Scholastic dollars this year will be helping with a new collection.”

Literature for sale at the fair included everything from “Fancy Nancy” to “Diaries of a Wimpy Kid,” and the Stadium Drive students looked very excited to get home and read.

Although the book fair kicked off Jan. 19, the students also had classroom visits on Jan. 20 and 21 to do their part in supporting the school.
