Canfield hockey team loses to Tigers

The Canfield Cardinals couldn’t muster an attack against the visting Tigers from Cleveland Heights and fell 7-3 on Jan. 23.

Joe Geiser assisted on all three goals for Canfield, who were down 4-0 midway through the second period until Sean Meditz put Canfield on the board with a power play goal.

The Cards scored two late goals — one by Roger Geiser and the other by Bryan Clark. Riley Emery and Roger Geiser also picked up assists. Dylan Williams stopped 33 shots in the defeat.

Another win for Cardinal girls

The Canfield freshman girls basketball team defeated Carrollton 39-21 on Jan. 21.

Crissy Gelonese led the Cards with 12 points. Erin McGraw had six points and Kaylee Kilbert, Jamie Giambattista, Elena Billy each scored five points.

Coaches association to meet

The Mahoning Valley Coaches Association will have their Winter Social on Feb. 9 at the YSU DeBartolo Club, beginning at 6:30 p.m.

Scrappers, 1570 WHTX sign games agreement

The Mahoning Valley Scrappers have a new broadcast partnership with 1570 WHTX during the 2011 and 2012 seasons. The agreement with Whiplash Radio LLC includes live broadcasts of all 76 home and away Scrappers games along with a live internet stream on 1570WHTX.com.

In addition, 1570 WHTX will host a weekly Scrappers talk show Thursdays at 5 p.m. during the 2011 and 2012 seasons.
