AMS Red wins two

Austintown Middle School Red wrestlers defeated Boardman Center 52-48 and Glenwood 61-21 Jan. 19.

Pinning for AMS Red was Adam Koslik, Anthony Moffo, Desmond Grey (2), Zach Pugh (2), Adam Green (2), Tex Martin (2), Shane Dillon, Harry Baumgartner and Jacob Franks (2).

One win and two losses for wrestlers

The AMS wrestling Blue team defeated West Geauga 60-29 Jan. 22, but lost to Boardman Glenwood 72-15 and Boardman Glenwood 66-24 on Jan. 19.

Scoring pins for the Falcons were Anthony Moffo, Adam Green, Jordan Lucas and Logan Kusky.

AMS eighth-grade boys lose to Massillon

The Austintown Middle School eighth-grade boys basketball Red team lost to Massillon 46-38 on Jan. 22. Zack Carr led all AMS scorers with 15 points.

Striking win for Fitch bowlers

The Austintown Fitch boys and girls bowling teams won their respective matches against Massillon Perry Jan. 21 at Wedgewood Lanes.

The Lady Falcons bested Perry 2,595-2,255. Katie Viglio 226 (389), Daria Harris 202 (382) and Vickie Berquist 191 (355) led the way for Fitch.

The Fitch boys team defeated Perry’s boys 3,121-2,984. Kyle Condrick 268 (496), Zach Thompson 279 (481), Brian Skelton 236 (455) and Vince Viglio 235 (434) paced Fitch.

Howland boys beat AMS Blue team

The Austintown eighth-grade boys basketball Blue team was defeated by Howland 40-35 on Jan. 20. Patrick Gerberry led the team with 14 points. Tommy James followed with 13 points.

Football teams wanted for league play

North East Ohio Youth Football League is looking for youth football teams to join the league.

Zaborsky earns honor

The Ohio High School Football Coaches Association recognized Austintown Fitch’s Steve Zaborsky as a member of the 2010 Academic All-Ohio Football Team.

Only 111 student-athletes from more than 35,000 players throughout Ohio were recognized for this prestigious award. To qualify, the honoree must exhibit exemplary academic performance in combination with outstanding athletic ability.

Blue team beats Boardman

The Austintown Middle School eighth-grade boys basketball Blue team defeated Boardman Glenwood 36-21 on Jan. 18.

Lead scorers for the Falcons included Derrin Hall with 10 points, Tommy James with eight points and Deonte Brown and Patrick Gerberry with six points each. Gino Rozzi, Nathan Shivley and Dylan Strong each scored two.

Red team beats Boardman

The Austintown Middle School eighth-grade boys basketball Red team defeated Boardman Glenwood 50-20 Jan. 20. High scorers from the team included Nick Pence and Joey Harrington with 10 points apiece.

AMS Blue team defeats Youngstown Christian

Austintown’s seventh-grade girls Blue basketball team beat Youngstown Christian 25-15 on Jan. 10.

The game was 10-8 at halftime and AMS put together a strong second half to pull ahead and win the game.

Seven out of the nine players scored.

Nominate an athlete for the Fitch Hall of Fame

The Fitch Athletic Hall of Fame will be accepting nominations until Feb. 25. for its upcoming 2011 class.

Basketball tournament scheduled for February

Austintown will host a boys and girls fifth and sixth-grade basketball tournament at Austintown Middle School Feb. 11-13, 18-20 and 26-27.
