Maple sugaring and other spring programs are being offered for teachers and their students at the Jennings Environmental Education Center.

Registration for the programs begins Tuesday.

For more information or to make a reservation, call the Jennings Center at 724-794-6011 between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. weekdays.

The center is at 2951 Prospect Road.

The maple-sugaring program unravels the mystery of how a tree works and demonstrates the art of sugaring from its early American Indian beginnings to modern-day techniques.

Programs will be offered for grades first through sixth at 10 a.m., 11 a.m., 1 p.m. and 2 p.m. from March 22-25.

Each program lasts about 90 minutes.

Jennings also offers a variety of hands-on environmental education programs.

“Natural Community Profile,” “Investigating Insects” and “Exploring Freshwater Communities” are a few of the programs available for elementary students.

Opportunities for secondary students include “Coal: Learning from the Past, Looking to the Future,” “Stream Study” and “Deer Dynamics: A Population Survey.” Additional programs are available upon request.

Jennings is open from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. weekdays and on weekends as scheduled.

The trails are open daily from sunrise to sunset for hiking and other environmentally-related activities.

People who need an accommodation to participate in park activities because of a disability may contact the Pennsylvania Bureau of State Parks: 888-PA-PARKS (voice), 717-558-2710 (local or international voice), or 711 (AT&T Relay Services).

With at least three days’ notice, interpreters for people who are deaf or hard of hearing are available for educational programs.
