POLAND

How do you spell courteous?

That was the question put to Olivia Morrison during the annual spelling bee that took place Jan. 21 in the gymnasium at Holy Family School. She not only spelled the word correctly but also correctly spelled brilliant to become the school spelling bee champion.

Nine homeroom champions, representing grades 4-8, participated in the bee. Francesca Strollo, an eighth-grade student at Holy Family, was the spelling bee runner-up.

Olivia, a daughter of Dean and Christine Morrison of New Springfield, represented Jean Wargo’s seventh-grade class at the bee and will advance to The Vindicator’s Spelling Bee in March at Youngstown State University.

Teachers involved in organizing and conducting the bee were Lissa Oslin, Joy Huber, Judy Dolby and Christine Kijowski.

Homeroom spelling champions at Holy Family and their teachers were:

Grade 4: Matthew Rossi (Oslin), and Chloe Noel Housteau (Monica Repasky)

Grade 5: Christopher Masternick (Marilyn Hammerton)

Grade 6: Tessa Snider (Charlotte Eskay) and Alex Wollet (Sarah Lidstone)

Grade 7: Olivia Morrison (Wargo) and Jon-Michael Koutsourais (Huber)

Grade 8: Taylor Tofil (Linda Taylor) and Francesca Strollo (Kathleen Holsinger).
