Event to raise funds for performing arts center

Friends and supporters of the Boardman Performing Arts Center have scheduled the first “Celebrate the Arts” Gala for May 7 at 7:30 p.m.

This special event will celebrate the first 10 years of the BPAC with reprised performances from many of the alumni stars from musical productions that have entertained thousands.

It will also salute Boardman’s rich performing arts legacy with performances from pre-BPAC musicals dating back to the 1960s when legendary director William Dykins staged more than 30 productions such as “Annie Get Your Gun,” “Li’l Abner,” “Camelot” and “Guys and Dolls.”

Commitments to participate or perform have already been received from distinguished alumni, including Todd Hancock (The Music Man), Chris Fidram (Fiddler On The Roof), Broadway star John Scacchetti (You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown), Ashley Senary (Hello Dolly), Michael Mraz (West Side Story), Trevor Coleman (Beauty and the Beast), Tim Welsh (Chicago) and more.

The principle goal of the event will be to raise the additional $25,000 needed to replace the BPAC’s aging sound system.

A keepsake ad book is being developed and sponsors are being sought. To become involved in the event as an alumni participant, to donate or to receive the latest information, visit www.celebrateBPAC.org.

The initial steering committee for the event includes Larry and Kathy Moliterno, Tim and Kathi Welsh, Larry Saxton, Elaine Mancini, Tom Costello, Dick Dowell, Mark Huberman, Jeannine Hodge, Heidi Domhoff, Michael Yatsco and Nick Opritza.

Tax-deductible contributions to the event can be made payable to the “Boardman Local Schools – BPAC” and sent to 7410 Market St., Boardman, OH 44512.
