Suspicious box cleared at Detroit airport

ROMULUS, Mich. (AP) — Authorities say part of a terminal at Detroit Metropolitan Airport was evacuated after a suspicious box was found in an area for processing cargo and luggage before being loaded onto planes.

Airport spokesman Mike Conway says an employee found the box about 7:30 a.m. Tuesday and passengers were removed from part of Concourse B at the McNamara Terminal out of “an abundance of caution.” Conway says about two hours later the package was cleared and nothing dangerous was found.

Conway says planes used other gates, and 10 to 14 flights were delayed. The concourse at the airport in Romulus primarily is used by regional aircraft.

Conway says details about why security officials determined the box to be suspicious weren’t available. The airport is located about 17 miles southwest of Detroit.
