Help to file taxes for Valley residents

YOUNGSTOWN

One Step to Life has teamed up with the Ohio Benefit Bank to offer trained counselors to help Mahoning Valley residents with their income-tax filings.

Ohio Benefit Bank is a counselor-assisted, web-based program that connects low- to moderate-income wage earners with access to tax credits and public benefits.

One Step to Life provides positive self-encouragement and awareness in young adults and children within the community through public newsletters, motivational speaking and nonviolence-alternative workshops.

People with household incomes of less than $57,000 can go to One Step to Life’s offices, 3610 Southern Blvd., to file a tax return for free. The office is open from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday through Friday. To make an appointment, call Glen Williams, One Step to Life executive director, at 330-781-7150 or 330-519-9279. Liberty Township’s 2010 annual reports are available for public viewing at the township administration building, 1315 Church Hill-Hubbard Road, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m Monday through Friday, or you may contact the township fiscal officer.

Talk will target gas industry, drilling

Dr. Jeff C. Dick, chairman of the , Department of Geological and Environmental Sciences at Youngstown State University, will speak at a special meeting 5:30 p.m. Feb. 15 at Liberty Township administration building, 1315 Church Hill-Hubbard Road.

Dick, who has 30 years of professional experience, will focus on natural-gas industry and drilling. He will discuss environmental safeguards, regulations and how drilling may affect water sources.
