Feb. 1 hearing to focus on federal-grant programs

Staff report

WARREN

A public hearing will be at 6 p.m. Feb. 1 in the Howland Township Administration Building, 205 Niles-Cortland Road, for two federal-grant programs for which Trumbull County commissioners plan to apply.

The programs are the Community Development Block Grant Program, administered by the Ohio Department of Development, and the Neighborhood Stabilization Program, administered by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development.

Trumbull County is eligible to apply for $540,000 through the CDBG program and $1,143,889 through the Neighborhood Stabilization Program.

Information will be provided about the two programs, and residents will be encouraged to provide input.

The programs fund a broad range of activities, including economic development, demolitions, housing rehabilitations and improvements to streets, water systems, sanitary sewers and storm drainage.

The grants must benefit low- and moderate-income people, prevent or eliminate slums and/or blighted areas or meet urgent community needs.
