HONORS

In hall of fame

John Nagy, longtime Youngstown radio newscaster, recently was inducted into the Ohio Associated Press Broadcasters Hall of Fame.

The AP award cites Nagy’s “serving with exceptional distinction and honor while upholding the highest ideals of broadcast journalism.”

Nagy’s 40-year career with WKBN radio and TV ended as news director in 2009. He was hired by WKBN in 1969 while still a student at Kent State University and was on TV covering the National Guard shootings at Kent State in 1970.

Later, he became news director on the radio side when the radio and television news departments were separated.

Last year, Nagy was a first-place winner for Ohio AP Broadcasters Best Regularly Scheduled News.
