Poland grapplers second at middle school duals

Neighbors | Submitted.Poland Middle School wrestler Bruno Spoltson won his match against an Austintown wrestler at the Austintown Duals Jan. 8..The middle school wrestlers defeated Boardman Glenwood, Liberty, Boardman Center and Austintown Middle School.  

The Poland Middle School wrestling team finished second at the Austintown Middle School duals at Fitch High School on Jan. 8.

The wrestlers finished with a 4–1 record on the day. They opened up with a 48–32 loss to Ravenna Southeast, before rallying with four straight wins over Boardman Glenwood (84–12), Liberty (84–0), Boardman Center (72–23) and Austintown Middle School (42-30).

Leading the way for the Bulldogs were Darren Gooden (86), Bobby Murcko (92), Anthony Audi (128) and Anthony Mancini (160), who went 5–0 on the day.

Dante Ginnetti (80), Bruno Spotleson (104), Christian Nemeth (115), Johnny Berndt (134) and Trey Ellis (142) all went 4-1.

“The boys wrestled well. It was great to get a preview of what our team could do at full strength,” said coach Matt Galchick. Other wrestlers who competed were Anthony Morucci (98), Dylan Garver (110), Josh Kulifay (150), Dan Cipriano (160) and Evan Brown (172).

Competing and winning in exhibition matches was Brett Nemeth (80), Luke Black (86), Nelson Figeroua (110) and Matt Duran (122).
