Boardman student earns service award
Hard work and dedication didn‘t go unnoticed for one local student.
The National Slovak Society named Boardman High School and Mahoning County Career and Technical Center senior Aaron Cessna the recipient of its 2010 Junior Achievement Award.
The National Slovak Society’s Youth Achievement Award is given annually to a youth who demonstrates outstanding fraternal work at their school or work, in their community, in their church and in their local NSS assembly.
Cessna is a member of the Boardman High School Industrial Arts Club, Art Club, Chess Club and the Key Club, where as a club officer he logged over 100 hours of volunteer work and organized the Haunted Hayride in the Boardman Park.
He has tutored students at Stadium Elementary School, ushered for the Boardman Performing Arts Department and participated in the English Festival, sponsored by Youngstown State University for the past four years.
Cessna helped raise funds for Angels for Animals, the Salvation Army and Relay For Life.
As a member of Assembly 731, Cessna has always been ready to lend a hand for all assembly functions and enjoys doing his favorite job of filling and hiding Easter eggs for the younger children. He has participated with Join Hands
Day, collected for the Salvation Army and was a youth advisor this past summer at the National Slovak Society’s Quadrennial Convention.
After Cessna graduates, he plans to attend Youngstown State University to study construction management.
