Icy roads cause Ohio accidents, delays

DAYTON, Ohio (AP) — Freezing rain has left behind icy patches that plagued drivers across Ohio during the morning commute.

Police in several areas called on road crews to bring salt to roadways where “black ice” caused problems early today. Classes in dozens of Ohio school districts were delayed or canceled.

The Dayton Daily News said authorities reported at least eight vehicle accidents, most in northern Montgomery County in southwest Ohio. No serious injuries were reported.

The Springfield and Xenia areas also had scattered road condition problems, particularly in rural areas.

Snow is expected to start moving in overnight, with most of southwest Ohio forecast to receive 4 to 5 inches Thursday. Temperatures also are expected to plummet well below freezing.
